My take on shadow work…

Updated: May 7, 2020

I believe all of us are born with the equal potential for light & dark, it’s how we utilize that potential makes us unique.

People find life easier when they can identify the good from bad, the right from wrong, the light from dark, the positive from negative. Then what? Specially the bad, the wrong, the dark, the negative? Most resist it, some work really hard to be good, to be right, to be the light, to think & be positive, some do what their gut says, thinks later, & so on. Let’s hold this thought of separation I came across the term shadow work few weeks before I created something more like my own version of it. When I say, ‘own version’ I mean my tools and techniques, my energy work. Interestingly, while I was doing my research on how shadow work is executed, I started to realise that it’s a different take on emotional healing, the kind that teaches us to be in balance. I have been healing myself and guiding others along the way it’s been quite some time now. My work has been usually about love and above healing and that honestly is fantastic for people who I call ‘believers of the beyond’. Well, what about the ‘believers of the within’? The ones who want to know how things are done. The ones who trust themselves more than the universe. So, the term shadow work was new for me, but the actual work was thankfully executed time & again. Going back to the ‘thought of separation’, the practice I facilitate or as I say, ‘my energy work’ will help you bridge the separation, as the goal is be in balance. Balance inherently aligns our soul to a higher state of power. The power is from the source. My dear believers of the beyond, the source is the universe / god / nature, however you wish to call it. My beloved believers of the within, the source is your heart & mind aligned for your higher power.

I should mention, any type of conscious healing during the initial stage feels uniquely intense. Why I say ‘initial stage’ is because healing is a continuous process. Healing is basically regenerating & rejuvenating energy. Be it a physical cut which stings too much in the beginning then soothes down, or a heartbreak which feels terrible at first and then things get easier. Also, why I say ‘continuous process’ is because regeneration & rejuvenation of energy is on autopilot as it is required for us to experience reality. Going back to the ‘believers of the within’ this process is a type of emotional healing that ironically throws light at our deepest darkest selves. Shadow work is all about taking references from our external reality and holding that string back to the dark pits of the past where the shadow rests. Nitpicking all the things that triggers the calm and dissecting that on a plate to see where it leads, where the real work needs to be done. That old spot right there is where you need to heal. Shadow work will lead you to that spot. Truths, those that have been hidden will start showing up in life, and the only way to walk ahead is by embracing & honouring that. Shadow work teaches us to love & accept the unacceptable. Honouring the dark helps spark the light from within. Instead of being guided by a light, isn’t it better to generate our own light? Honestly healing is quite simple, because all of us have been doing it for ourselves since we stepped foot on earth. But is simple always easy? Conscious healing takes patience & love. Where there is patience there is time, and where there is love there is effort.

According to the swiss psychoanalyst who discovered shadow work, Carl Jung; working with the shadow is like “integrating the hidden power of your dark side”. He stated that, “the shadow is a moral problem that challenges the whole ego-personality, for no one can become conscious of the shadow without considerable moral effort. To become conscious of it involves recognizing the dark aspects of the personality as present and real. This act is the essential condition for any kind of self-knowledge.” Even though this is quite the deep dive into the subconscious, though it may feel like an endless pit, I can assure you that’s not the case. My attempt was to keep this short and sensible, let me know how well that worked for you? To know more about Carl Jung and various shadow works you can always google. If you wish to know how I did it, or if you want me to guide you through it, please get in touch with me at your ease.
